The Richland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday afternoon that the body of Melinda Kay Davis was found in the trunk of her car.

Davis, a mother of four from Shelby, Ohio, was last seen Feb 25. She was on her way to Mansfield to see her ex-boyfriend, John Henry Mack. He was arrested on kidnapping charges on March 5 when Davis could not be contacted.

Police say after an 18-day search, a tip was called in reporting that Davis’ car was found in Columbus. When police arrived to the scene, her body was found in the trunk of the car.

Law enforcement could not confirm a motive at this time, citing the case is under active investigation.

An autopsy is being done to determine Davis’ cause of death, according to the Richland County prosecutor.
