A family from Canton is mourning the loss of a 7-year-old child who died suddenly inside a vacation rental home Sunday evening.

News outlets around the North Carolina Outer Banks say emergency workers responded to home in Corolla. When they arrived, they found a 7-year-old boy trapped by the elevator, without a pulse.

Currituck Fire-EMS Chief Ralph Melton says the child was extracted quickly but unable to be resuscitated.
