One local school district is taking a step they believe is necessary to protect students and staff from the spread of the coronavirus.

Thursday evening, Canton City Schools announced they will require all staff, students and visitors to wear masks indoors for the duration of 2021-22 school year – the policy also includes masking up on transportation.

Masks requirements will be enforced regardless of the individual’s vaccination status.

Superintendent Jeff Talbert said the district will allow exceptions to the mask policy, only if documentation is provided – they will be required to still wear approved face shields.

Talbert also noted that three-foot social distancing will be enforced whenever possible.

Mask breaks will be permitted based on teacher discretion if social distancing is available.
