Wednesday afternoon, the Ohio Department of Commerce announced it would start the process for medical marijuana dispensaries to expand their growing area. Applications must be submitted by Oct. 1.

Most of the current cultivators will be allowed to double their space. For example, Level I cultivators who occupy facilities with 25,000 square feet of cultivation space will be allowed to expand to 50,000 square feet. Level II cultivators with 3,000 square feet will be allowed to expand to 6,000 square feet.

Just Tuesday, the Ohio Board of Pharmacy announced they would be granting 73 additional dispensary licenses in the near future. The application process will begin in November.

For current dispensaries looking to expand their operation, they must meet criteria, such as proving they have a need for more space and being in operation for at least one year.
