The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting that occurred following a road rage incident in Canton Township Sunday evening.

Deputies were dispatched to a Marathon gas station in the 4300 block of 12th Street NW for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they located a 32-year-old Canton man with two gunshot wounds. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening.

It was quickly determined by the investigation that a road rage incident ensued on Whipple Ave between the victim and the 26-year-old Cody Hastings. Hastings reportedly fired multiple shots at the victim as he was walking to his car.

Hastings was arrested and charged with one count of felonious assault (F2) and booked into the Stark County Jail.

“It’s just not worth it,” explained Sheriff George T. Maier. “No matter how mad someone may make you on the roadway, the safest option is always to keep driving. Stopping to confront the other driver is simply not worth putting yourself, your family, and others at risk.”
