Hiland survives double OT regional semifinal vs Newark Catholic

ATHENS, Ohio (JMN Sports) – The Hiland Hawks outlasted Newark Catholic after regulation and two overtime periods to win the OHSAA Region 15 semifinals, 63-62, on Tuesday night at the Convocation Center at Ohio University.

Dylan Weaver drilled the go-ahead 3-pointer with 8.9 seconds to go in the second overtime to earn the Hawks their fifth consecutive regional final appearance.

Sammy Detweiler scored 17 points to lead Hiland, while Weaver and Grant Miller each totaled 12 points.

Cole Canter led the Green Wave with a game-high 28 points.

The Hawks (22-4) will advance to Friday’s regional final in Athens against the Tuesday winner of Lucasville Valley and Latham Western.
