The New Philadelphia Police Department released an update regarding the homicide of a 76-year-old man that occurred Monday.
Police have identified the victim as Thomas Earl Haughawout of 135 ½ 5th St SW. They say he was shot and killed inside his home around 6:30am.
Detectives are working at interviewing ‘associates’ of Haughawout to gain information related to his murder.
“It is our belief that this is an isolated incident and not a random act of violence,” read a statement posted to New Philadelphia’s Facebook page. “We believe based on our investigation that the perpetrator of this heinous crime was known to Mr. Haughawout and that the general public’s safety is not in jeopardy.”
