Man facing arson, murder charges in Canton apartment fire

A homeless man is who was recently arrested for a Plain Township arson is now new charges in another arson case that resulted in the death of a Canton man.

Anthony Michael Carr, 31, has been charged with aggravated arson and felony murder for an apartment fire that killed 71-year-old Patrick Michael Murphy on Raff Road SW in Canton.

Carr was booked into the Stark County Jail earlier in December by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office after officials believe he set fire at a home on Fairmont St NE in Plain Township. No injuries were sustained in that fire.

Murphy was the only one to die in the Raff Road fire, but three others were rescued from the apartment complex. Murphy died at Cleveland MetroHealth from his injuries.

Carr’s bond has been set at $1 million for the new charges.
