The Akron Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident that left a man dead in the city.
Thursday evening police were dispatched to E. Exchange St at Spicer St for reports of a pedestrian vs. car accident. Police learned that the a 69-year-old man crossing E. Exchange St was struck by a vehicle that was heading east bound.
After striking the pedestrian, the suspect vehicle then fled the scene. The victim was transported to Summa Hospital where he died from his injuries.
The suspect vehicle was recovered by police a short time later.
The accident remains under investigation.
