The Canton Police Department continues to investigate an accident involving a motorcycle on Interstate 77 south Friday evening.

According to a Canton Police Officer, they believe the person riding the motorcycle took off on foot after the crash because he had a warrant for his arrest.

Police also told JMN that the biker was posting on social media about the extent of his injuries.

I-77 south between Fulton and Everhard was shut down from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. as crews searched for the biker who they thought was ejected from the motorcycle.

Thousands of people were stuck in the standstill for hours as crews from around Stark County searched on foot and by drone for a man they believed was seriously injured.

Police called off the search just before midnight.

It’s unclear what new charges the motorcyclist may face, if any. At this time, the rider’s name has not been publicly released.

The incident remains under investigation.
