Canton police investigating homicide that was originally reported as overdose; victim identified

The Canton Police Department is investigating the city’s second homicide of 2023 that happened just after noon on Sunday, Jan. 29.

According to Police Chief John Gabbard, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of 4th St. N.W. for an overdose and was transported to Aultman Hospital by the fire department.

While en-route to the hospital, the patient died. During the investigation, it was discovered that the victim suffered a small gunshot wound to the back.

The victim has been identified as Stacey Armstead, a 49-year-old woman from Canton.

The investigation remains under investigation.
