Hornets down Hawks 10-4 behind Kidder’s seven strikeout performance

The Malvern Hornets (1-2) clinched their first victory of the season with a 10-4 win over the Hiland Hawks Thursday.

Kathryn Kidder went the distance on the mound for the Hornets, striking out seven and walking three.

The Hornets earned two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. They added to their lead with an explosive third inning, scoring five runs to extend their lead to 7-0.

Hiland plated their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Malvern responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as they cruised to a 10-4 victory.

In addition to Kidder’s strong performance from the pitcher’s mound, she recorded one hit that resulted in an inside-the-park homerun.

Malvern’s Izzy Warth and Amber Gray each recorded two RBIs. The Hornets finished with four hits total. Kidder, Warth, Ava Conrad and Danielle Skinner each recorded one hit.

With the win, Malvern moves to 1-2 on the season.
