JMN has obtained the body camera footage from a recent officer-involved shooting between Canton Police and man from Canton.

Jeffrey Neff, 41, of Canton was shot and killed by a Canton Police Officer who has since been identified as Officer Dryden.

According to reports, Canton officers were dispatched to a home on 25th St SW for reports of a disturbance. When officers arrived at the scene, Neff took off on foot, behind the home, and over a fence.

During the foot pursuit, officials say one shot was fired from Neff at Officer Dryden, grazing him, but not seriously injuring him. Officer Dryden returned fire at Neff who was struck. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“This incident illustrates the dangers faced too frequently by police officers. I am grateful that Officer Dryden was not seriously injured and fully confident in the ability of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) to thoroughly and objectively investigate,” Canton Police Chief John Gabbard said. “I am dedicated to respecting the independence of the investigative process in this matter, which will limit my ability to comment further.”

Chief Gabbard also sent his condolences to the Neff family.

“Regardless of the circumstances, any loss of life is tragic, and I am prayerful that Mr. Neff’s family will find peace,” he said.
