A man from the Beach City area has died after a piece of equipment he was operating overturned, according to officials.

Joseph Weber III, 65, was operating a heavy piece of equipment in the 15000 block of Millersburg Road, according to Stark County Coroner Chief Investigator Harry Campbell.

Weber was backing the equipment in soft dirt in an effort to build a pond in a farm field. While he was backing the equipment up, it started to slide sideways and was ejected and trapped under the heavy equipment. Weber was not wearing a seatbelt inside the machinery.

“They were building a pond and he was on a ridge of soft dirt and it rolled. He got trapped underneath the roof,” said Campbell. “He died instantly.”

The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday and he was pronounced dead by 9:33 a.m.
