The death toll in Tuesday morning’s bus crash along Interstate 70 involving Tuscarawas County students has risen to six.

Licking County EMA Director Sean Grady confirmed six fatalities, including three from the charter bus transporting 57 people – which includes Tusky Valley students.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, along with members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio Department of Transportation, held a press conference early Tuesday afternoon, confirming 18 passengers injured in the accident located just east of Columbus.

Neither DeWine nor patrol members confirmed if any students were among the fatalities.

“I can confirm that this is a fatal crash,” said patrol Lt. Nate Dennis. “However, until all the proper notifications are made, we’re not going to give any details in regard to that.”

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Tusky Valley High School’s Trojan Stadium in Zoarville.
