Minerva man identified as suspect shot and killed by police

Canton police were involved in an officer-involved shooting that happened late Tuesday evening in Canton.

Officers responded to an apartment complex along Alan Page Drive around 10 p.m. for reports of a man with a gun.

The responding officer became engaged with the suspect, according to Police chief John Gabbard.

The suspect, identified as Zachary Fornash, 24, of Minerva, was transported to Aultman Hospital where he died.

BCI was requested by the Canton PD to investigate the fatal officer-involved shooting, according to Steve Irwin, spokesperson with the Attorney Generals Office.

No officers were injured.

BCI’s investigation is active and ongoing.

No other details were immediately available.
