A tragic incident unfolded south of New Philadelphia on Tuesday, resulting in the accidental shooting death of a 62-year-old man in Warwick Township.

According to the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was engaged in the routine task of cleaning his handgun when an unexpected discharge occurred, striking him in the chest. The incident transpired in the 3000 block of Orchard Road Southeast, near the village of Tuscarawas, at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accidental shooting. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed at this time.

Law enforcement officials are urging gun owners to exercise utmost caution and follow recommended safety protocols while handling firearms.
