Two men convicted in the deliberate attack on two Canton police officers last summer have been sentenced to prison.

Braylen Smallwood, 22, of Canton, and Trezjon Allen, 21, of Massillon, were each given prison terms ranging from 20 to 25 1/2 years for attempted murder, along with specifications for firearm possession and involvement in gang activity related to the crime.

In June 2023, the officers were targeted while on duty in the 200 block of 12th Street Northwest. Despite one officer sustaining minor injuries from a grazed bullet, law enforcement apprehended Smallwood near the scene.

Allen initially evaded capture post-incident but was later detained.

The duo faced attempted murder charges, eventually entering guilty pleas.
