Fire breaks out at housing complex in Waynesburg, two residents hospitalized

Ten fire departments responded to a massive fire at Indian Run Manor, a Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority complex on Mottice Dr. SE in Waynesburg.

In Waynesburg, a massive fire ravaged Indian Run Manor – a Stark County Metropolitan Housing Complex early Tuesday morning.

Responding swiftly, 10 departments, with Mohawk Valley in the lead, dispatched 59 firefighters at 3:25 a.m. Mohawk Valley’s proximity facilitated their arrival within 4 minutes at the 7785 Mottice Dr. location.

With 24 occupied apartments and many residents being disable or restricted in movement, Mohawk Valley took charge of the scene, while other assisting departments helped residents out of the complex.

A staging area was set up in the Mohawk Valley fire department parking lot.

Two residents were transported for smoke inhalation by Quad Ambulance, but are expected to be discharged today. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, receiving on-scene treatment.

The fire, originating in an apartment and spreading to a second apartment, an office area, and the roof, was contained in the attic space.

Responding departments include Sandy Creek Joint Fire, Great Trail, Magnolia, Osnaburg and Canton Township.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.
