50-year-old Stark County resident killed in Canton Township crash

A 50-year-old man from Canton lost his life in a fatal two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 30 at Pekin Avenue on Saturday night in Canton Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol identified the victim as Ronald Hashman, who was riding a motorized Caloi bicycle northbound on Pekin around 7:45 p.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the left side of a utility trailer being towed by a 23-year-old from East Palestine.

Despite the efforts made by Canton Township EMS, Hashman, who was not wearing a helmet or other protective gear, died from his injuries upon arrival at Aultman Hospital. The driver of the truck, remained unharmed as he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The incident resulted in the closure of Route 30 for approximately an hour while authorities responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected factors of the crash.

Emergency services from Canton Township EMS, Stark County Sheriff’s Office, and Tracer’s Towing provided assistance during the response to the tragic event.
