The New Philadelphia Police Department responded to a reported crash and shooting late Wednesday night.

Around 11:51 p.m., a resident called 911 to report a crash and gunfire at the intersection of Commercial Avenue SE and Goshen Avenue. Shortly after that, another call reported a 41-year-old woman with a gunshot wound in the 300 block of Church Avenue SE.

Officers promptly arrived at both scenes and requested detectives. The investigation revealed that the shooting occurred at the Commercial and Goshen intersection. Before the shooting, a vehicle driven by an unidentified woman, with passenger Chance Swaney, 27, of Uhrichsville, crashed into an embankment at the intersection.

A second vehicle, driven by a male, with the 41-year-old woman as a passenger, pulled up next to the crashed vehicle. As they began to exit, Swaney allegedly started shooting at them. The second vehicle then fled the intersection and pulled onto Church Avenue, where the male driver called 911. The female victim was last reported to be in stable condition.

A gun was recovered by police near the crash scene. Authorities believe the incident is drug-related.

Swaney was arrested at the scene and faces multiple charges: one count of attempted murder, one count of felonious assault, one count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, two counts of having weapons while under disability, and one count of misdemeanor theft.

No further information will be released at this time.
