The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary incident that took place Monday evening.

Justin Heston, 33, of the Newcomerstown area, was arrested for burglary and operating a vehicle while impaired after a 44-year-old Auburn Township woman reported an unknown male entered her residence and made it to the second floor.

The mother and her five children hid behind a locked door. A Deputy responding to the burglary located a vehicle and suspect matching the description given in the vicinity. Heston was taken into custody and was positively identified by the victim.

“He did not take anything. No force was used. He entered the house through the unlocked front door,” said Adam Fisher of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.

Some of the children were outside when Heston arrived, but they did not recognize him and went inside. As he entered the alley, the family proceeded to a bedroom and locked the door.

The suspect went upstairs and knocked on the door behind which the family was hiding. He left soon after.

Heston remains in custody as the investigation continues.
