The New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post is investigating a single-vehicle motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 33-year-old man late Saturday night.

The crash occurred on County Road 29 (Edwards Ridge Road) near the intersection of County Road 32 (Crooked Creek Road) in Tuscarawas County at approximately 11:30 PM on Saturday, August 24. According to authorities, a black 2007 Harley Davidson Road King was traveling southbound when it lost control while negotiating a curve and overturned. The motorcycle then slid off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.

The operator of the motorcycle, Trevor E. Berndt, 33, of Newcomerstown, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office. The coroner’s office later transported Berndt to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital.

Emergency responders from Uhrichsville EMS, Rush Township Fire Department, and the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at the scene.

Authorities noted that Berndt was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
