Local schools on lockdown after inmate escapes in Portage County

UPDATE: The suspect is in custody.

Local schools in the area of Industrial Parkway, near the eCheck and ODOT building off State Route 44, are under lockdown following the escape of an inmate from the Inmate Work Program, according to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.

The individual is described as a 31-year-old white male last seen wearing an orange and white striped jumpsuit and a red hat. Law enforcement is currently deploying all available resources to safely apprehend the escaped inmate.

Residents and businesses in the area are urged to lock their doors and exercise caution. Authorities advise the public to use good judgment as the situation unfolds.
