Austin L. Healy, the 26-year-old son of former Canton Mayor William J. Healy II, died Tuesday evening from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on U.S. Route 62.

According to Canton police, Healy, a resident of Massillon, was traveling eastbound on a Honda CB-1 motorcycle when the crash occurred. He struck the rear passenger-side corner of a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox in the left eastbound lane. The impact sent the motorcycle into the right lane, where it collided with the rear driver’s side of a 2016 Lincoln. The motorcycle then veered off the road, coming to rest in a grassy median.

The report indicates the accident occurred at 10:19 p.m. Healy was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

No injuries were reported by the drivers of the other vehicles or a passenger in the Lincoln. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
