The New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left a motorcyclist with serious injuries early Wednesday morning on U.S. Route 36 in Tuscarawas County.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:35 a.m. near mile post 10, close to the intersection of Township Road 248 (Robin Road). According to authorities, a red 2020 Chevrolet Trax and a red 2012 Harley Davidson Electra Glide were both traveling westbound when the Chevrolet slowed for traffic ahead, preparing to turn into a private driveway. The motorcycle failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of the vehicle.

The driver of the Chevrolet Trax, Samantha Krocker, 22, of New Philadelphia, was uninjured and was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The motorcycle operator, Tyler Crawford, 34, also of New Philadelphia, sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted by MedFlight to Akron City Hospital.

Responders from Tri-County EMS, Arrowhead Fire and EMS, and towing services from Keith’s Towing and Rosenberry Towing assisted at the scene.

Officials confirmed that Crawford was not wearing a helmet, though drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
