Three people were seriously injured in a hit-skip crash involving a horse and buggy Saturday night, according to Beach City Police Chief Curt Gipe.

The crash occurred in Brewster, and shortly after the incident, Beach City Police Officer James Dunnivan spotted a vehicle with visible damage driving through Beach City. Officer Dunnivan observed the vehicle run a stop sign and initiated a traffic stop.

“After questioning the damage, the driver admitted to the hit-skip and was taken into custody,” Gipe wrote on the department’s Facebook page. The driver was issued a citation for running the stop sign and was then turned over to Brewster police for further investigation.

The three occupants of the Amish buggy were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.

In addition to the citation for the traffic violation, the suspect faces multiple charges in Massillon Municipal Court, including failure to stop after an accident and three counts of vehicular assault.

Police praised Officer Dunnivan for his diligence in identifying the vehicle involved in the incident.
