An 81-year-old woman accidentally drove her car into a local business on Friday, killing a man inside.
Jackson Township Police responded to the incident at Angello’s 2 Go, located at 5081 Fulton Drive NW, at approximately 11:55 a.m. Barbara O’Donnell, of Canal Fulton, was driving a gray 2018 Toyota RAV4 when she mistakenly pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake while attempting to park in front of the business.
O’Donnell’s vehicle crashed through the front of the building, pinning Andrew Grosschmidt, 69, of Canton, between the counter and the vehicle. The Jackson Township Fire Department extricated Grosschmidt from the scene, and he was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
O’Donnell was treated at the scene and released. No other patrons or employees were injured. Grosschmidt’s granddaughter, who was also present at the time of the crash, was not harmed.
Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.
