Driver seriously injured, flown to hospital after two-vehicle crash in Carroll County

A two-vehicle crash in Carroll County on Tuesday afternoon left one driver seriously injured, according to the New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post. The incident, which occurred on State Route 43 north of Carry Road in Lee Township, is currently under investigation.

The crash happened at approximately 2:08 p.m. on October 8, 2024. A black 2014 Hyundai Sonata, driven by James D. McClain, 59, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, was traveling southbound on State Route 43 when it went left of center. A grey 2021 Ford F250, heading northbound, struck the Hyundai after McClain overcorrected.

McClain was evaluated at the scene by Emergency Medical Transport and later flown to Aultman Hospital by Stat Med Evac due to the severity of his injuries. The driver of the Ford F250, Tyler A. Milhoan, 25, of East Liverpool, Ohio, sustained minor injuries. His passenger, Eli S. Byler, 25, of Salineville, Ohio, was not injured.

All occupants were reported to be wearing their safety belts at the time of the crash. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carrollton Fire Department, Loudon Township Fire Department, Emergency Medical Transport, Stat Med Evac, and the Ohio Department of Transportation responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
