A 27-year-old Canton man was arrested Thursday following an alleged robbery attempt at a Chase Bank on the city’s northwest side.
Canton Police Chief John Gabbard said officers responded to reports of a robbery in progress at the Chase Bank, located at 1401 30th St. NW, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Upon entering the bank, officers observed a man pointing a firearm at a teller while several customers were present.
The officers ordered the man to the ground at gunpoint. He complied and was taken into custody without further incident, Gabbard said.
Police recovered approximately $6,500 in cash and a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun at the scene. The suspect was identified as Zaviee K. Pledgure, 27, of Canton. He has been charged with one count of aggravated robbery and eight counts of kidnapping. Pledgure is currently being held at the Stark County Jail.
