Two teenagers died early Wednesday morning after being rescued from a burning home in Summit County, and their grandmother remains in critical condition, officials said.
Firefighters responded to a call on Cove Boulevard shortly after 3 a.m., where a 911 caller reported a fire with two individuals trapped inside, according to Coventry Township Fire Chief Adam Rockich.
Summit County sheriff’s deputies were first on the scene and attempted to enter the burning residence but were unable to reach the victims. Fire crews arrived moments later, locating and removing both teens from the house. A female teen was found in an upstairs bedroom, while a male teen was discovered in a downstairs bedroom.
Chief Rockich indicated that the 911 call is believed to have come from the teenagers’ grandmother. He added that the teens were likely asleep when the fire began. Despite rescue efforts, both teens succumbed to their injuries.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined.
