A fire broke out at a residence on Knoll Street Southeast in North Canton on Thursday afternoon, leaving two cats dead and two dogs injured, according to officials.
The North Canton Fire Department responded to the blaze at 2:55 p.m. with assistance from Plain Township, Jackson Township, and Greentown fire departments. Crews arriving at the scene observed flames coming from the front window of the home and launched an offensive attack. Firefighters discovered two dogs and two cats inside the residence, which was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The animals were provided oxygen on-site. The dogs were transported to a veterinary clinic and are expected to recover. Tragically, the two cats succumbed to the effects of the fire.
The fire was brought under control by 3:31 p.m., with crews completing overhaul operations and clearing the scene by 6:39 p.m. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
While battling the house fire, the North Canton Fire Department handled four additional EMS calls. A motor vehicle accident was managed by the Plain Township Fire Department.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. North Canton Fire Chief Drew Cramer thanked the dispatchers, North Canton Police Department, and assisting fire departments for their support.
