Update: The ground stop was lifted just before 8:30 a.m.

American Airlines flights faced widespread delays early Tuesday morning as the airline grappled with a technical issue, according to company statements and federal officials.

The Fort Worth-based carrier acknowledged the disruption in a post on social media platform X at 5:37 a.m., responding to a passenger reporting a delay on a flight from St. Louis to Miami. “We are currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights,” the airline said.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) implemented a ground stop for all American Airlines flights during the morning hours as the issue persisted.

In a follow-up statement, the airline assured passengers its team was working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. “An estimated timeframe has not been provided, but they’re trying to fix it in the shortest possible time,” the company said in a social media reply.

American Airlines did not immediately provide further details about the nature of the technical issue or an expected timeline for resolution.
