Shooting at Stark Co. gas station leaves one in critical condition; suspect arrested

A 37-year-old man is in critical condition after a late-night shooting at a Circle K on Mahoning Road NE Saturday, according to Canton police.

Chief John Gabbard said officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at 3240 Mahoning Rd. NE at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Jan. 4. Upon arrival, officers found Devone A. Spencer, 37, of Canton, suffering from gunshot wounds to his arm, neck, and face.

Officers administered first aid until Canton Fire Department medics arrived and transported Spencer to Aultman Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The suspect, identified as Markalow T. Richardson, 29, of Canton, was apprehended during a traffic stop at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Jan. 5 in the 2100 block of Navarre Rd. SW. He is facing charges of attempted murder, a first-degree felony, and two counts of felonious assault, both second-degree felonies.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Canton Police Detective Bureau at (330) 489-3144.
