A school bus carrying 48 students was struck from behind Wednesday afternoon while unloading passengers on Market Avenue in Lake Township, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred around 3:44 p.m. when a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Joshua Miller, 36, of Massillon, failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the stationary Lake Local School District bus. The bus was driven by Joseph Shuman, 44, of Uniontown, officials said.

Neither driver was injured in the collision, and the bus sustained minimal damage. However, three students reported minor injuries. None required transportation to a hospital.

Authorities said the bus had stopped in the southbound lane of Market Avenue with its lights activated, allowing students to disembark at their homes.

Preliminary investigations found no evidence of alcohol or drug use as contributing factors. Officials are reviewing whether distracted driving or mechanical failure played a role in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol urged drivers to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols around school buses, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stopping distances when buses are loading or unloading students.

The crash remains under investigation.
