One person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting late Tuesday night at a warehouse in New Albany, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. at the KDC/One facility in the 8800 block of Smith’s Mill Road North, according to police. KDC/One manufactures cosmetics for L Brands stores, according to the New Albany Chamber of Commerce website.
New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones described the shooting as a “targeted type of attack” during an early morning press briefing Wednesday. He said no altercation preceded the violence, and the motive remains unclear. A firearm was recovered at the scene, though officials did not disclose its type.
Suspect Identified, Not in Custody
Authorities identified the suspect as Bruce Reginald Foster III, who remains at large. Police do not believe Foster is still at the warehouse, Jones said. The suspect, described as 6 feet tall and about 175 pounds, was an employee of KDC/One.
During a 7:30 a.m. update, Jones said an unspecified handgun was used in the attack and that surveillance footage captured Foster entering and leaving the building. Police said Foster arrived at the facility via a ride but do not believe the driver was involved.
Just before 4 a.m., authorities obtained an address linked to Foster on Morsetown Court South in Columbus’ Walnut Creek neighborhood. A State Highway Patrol helicopter later spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one Foster was last seen in.
A Columbus police SWAT team executed a search warrant at a residence in the area but determined that neither the occupants nor the vehicle were connected to the shooting. Additional locations have been searched, but Foster remains unaccounted for.
Investigation Ongoing
The five injured victims were transported to a hospital, though their conditions have not been disclosed. The deceased victim was found inside the warehouse, Jones said.
Roughly 150 employees were in the building at the time, and about 20 were escorted to another section of the facility for safety. Many inside were unaware of the shooting as it unfolded, Jones added.
“This has been a very tragic situation,” he said. “This is something that we hope would never happen in our community. But we prepare for it, and this is where we are now.”
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, New Albany and Columbus police departments, and the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting in the investigation.
New Albany schools remained open Wednesday, but the KDC/One warehouse will remain closed as authorities continue their investigation.
Police urged anyone with information on Foster’s whereabouts to contact New Albany police at 614-855-1234.
