A Canton man has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 21 years for the fatal shooting of Charles T. Smith, a Columbus rapper known as B-Att, and the wounding of three bystanders.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Sheryl Munson handed down the sentence Tuesday to 23-year-old Travis Ingram Jr., who pleaded guilty a day earlier to murder and three counts of felonious assault. The charges included firearm specifications tied to the murder and one assault charge.
Prosecutors said the shooting occurred Jan. 29, 2023, at the Doll House nightclub, where Smith had just finished performing. Ingram, armed with a Glock pistol outfitted with a 50-round drum magazine, opened fire on Smith, killing him. Three dancers at the club were also injured in the gunfire.
Authorities arrested Ingram on Feb. 22, 2023, in Massillon with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Following the shooting, Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein filed a lawsuit seeking to close the nightclub until safety measures were implemented. The venue remained shut for about 10 months before reopening under security requirements ordered by Franklin County Municipal Court.
