A 30-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday morning in Canton, and an 18-year-old woman was later arrested in connection with his death, authorities said.

Canton Police Chief John Gabbard said officers responded to a 911 call at 11:25 a.m. reporting a shooting at 1911 2nd St. SW. When officers arrived, they found Shawn J. Hawkins Jr., 30, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers provided first aid until medics from the Canton Fire Department arrived and transported him to Aultman Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators identified the suspect as Money L. Baccus, 18, of the same address. She was taken into custody Wednesday evening in Akron by members of the Canton Police Special Investigations Unit and the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

Baccus has been charged with murder, a first-degree felony, along with felonious assault and domestic violence.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Canton Police Detective Bureau at (330) 489-3144. Anonymous tips can be sent through Tip411 or Stark County Crime Stoppers. Residents can sign up for Tip411 at www.cantonohio.gov/police.
