A 15-year-old student at New Philadelphia High School was taken into custody Sunday morning after authorities were alerted to a potential school violence threat posted on social media, police said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Statewide Terrorism Analysis and Crime Center notified New Philadelphia police of the threat shortly after 4:30 a.m., according to a statement from law enforcement. Officers responded and apprehended the teenager at his home without incident.
Authorities have not disclosed the specific nature of the threat but confirmed it was posted to a private social media story.
Police said a report has been forwarded to the Tuscarawas County Prosecutor’s Office for review and potential charges.
