Strasburg-Franklin senior Riley Thomas has been named a finalist for the 2025 Ohio Ms. Basketball Award, the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association (OPSMA) announced.
Thomas, a 5-foot-11 forward, played a crucial role in one of the best seasons in Strasburg-Franklin history. She averaged a double-double with 18 points and 10.9 rebounds per game, shooting 58% from the field while often facing double and triple teams. She leaves behind a storied legacy, holding school records in career points (1,617), rebounds (807), wins (79), and field goal percentage (61.5%). A three-time All-Ohio selection, she is one of just seven players statewide vying for the top individual honor in Ohio high school girls’ basketball.
The winner of the Ohio Ms. Basketball Award will be announced on Wednesday, March 12. Voting is currently underway among the 226 registered OPSMA members and will conclude at noon on Monday, March 10. The voting system mirrors that of the Heisman Trophy, awarding three points for first-place votes, two for second place, and one for third.
Thomas is joined by a strong field of finalists, including two-time winner Dee Alexander (Purcell Marian), Elise Bender (Whitehouse Anthony Wayne), Naomi Benson (Streetsboro), Ariyana Cradle (Westerville South), Bryn Martin (Springboro), Tatiana Mason (Lyndhurst Brush), and Joplin Yoder (Berlin Hiland).
The Ohio Ms. Basketball Award, originally selected by the Associated Press from 1987 to 2016, has been presented by the OPSMA since 2017. Following the award announcement, the OPSMA will begin releasing its All-Ohio teams on Monday, March 24.
