Several area girls wrestlers secured their spots in the state semifinals Saturday night, with Carrollton’s Riley Alborn making history as the first female wrestler from her school to reach this stage.

Alborn Makes Carrollton History

Carrollton’s Riley Alborn punched her ticket to the Division II state semifinals at 190 pounds with a dominant first-period pin over Benjamin Logan’s Sophia Harris, securing the win in just 1 minute and 30 seconds.

With the victory, Alborn becomes the first female wrestler in Carrollton history to reach the state semifinals.

“It’s an incredible feeling to get to this point,” Alborn said. “I’m just staying focused, listening to my coach, and making sure I’m prepared for the next match.”

To get ready for the semifinals, she plans to relax, warm up as usual, and maintain her focus.

McCracken Cruises to Semifinals

United senior Dakota McCracken made quick work of her opponent in the 235-pound quarterfinals, pinning Archbold junior Gabby Oregon in just 29 seconds to secure a semifinal spot.

McCracken’s performance was one of the most dominant of the round, as she continues her pursuit of a state title.

Meanwhile, fellow United wrestler Auston Brown fell in her quarterfinal match, losing 9-3. She will now compete in the consolation bracket.

Mozden Twins Advance for Alliance

Alliance’s Adilyn and Abigail Mozden both advanced to the state semifinals, keeping the Aviators well-represented in the tournament.

Abigail, wrestling at 135 pounds, secured her spot in the semifinals with a hard-fought win over Olentangy Orange junior Chloe Tompkins. Her sister, Adilyn, followed suit with a 1:28 pin over Howland senior Madison Burns in her quarterfinal bout.

Geckler Moves On for Massillon Perry

Massillon Perry’s Carolyn Geckler also advanced to the state semifinals, continuing a strong showing for area wrestlers.

Semifinal matches take place Saturday night at the Schottenstein Center, with these local standouts looking to earn a spot in the championship finals.
