A Salem man is facing multiple charges after police say he attempted to open car doors on the University of Mount Union campus and then fled from officers.
Noah Bainbridge, 26, was taken into custody following a foot chase with Alliance police, according to the department. The encounter was recorded on an officer’s body camera and later shared on the department’s Facebook page.
Police said Bainbridge was observed trying to open several vehicle doors in a campus parking lot. When approached by an officer, he allegedly denied touching the vehicles, provided a false name, and ran from the scene.
Officers pursued Bainbridge on foot for several minutes. A taser was deployed during the chase but was ineffective. Bainbridge was eventually caught and arrested in a nearby backyard.
He was charged with obstructing official business, resisting arrest, falsification, and was also wanted on an outstanding warrant. Police noted the arrest comes amid a recent uptick in vehicle thefts in the area.
