A Louisville man has died following a motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday in Tuscarawas County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
David Metzger, 66, was pronounced dead at Cleveland Clinic Akron General on April 1, the Summit County Coroner’s Office notified troopers Wednesday. Metzger had been in serious condition since the March 29 crash in Fairfield Township.
The New Philadelphia Post of the Highway Patrol said Metzger was riding a green 1997 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide northeast on County Road 86 (Tabor Ridge Road) around 3:33 p.m. Saturday when he failed to negotiate a curve, went left of center, and drove off the left side of the roadway. The motorcycle overturned. People close to Metzger posted on social media that a medical emergency led to the crash.
Metzger was initially transported by Smith Ambulance to Union Hospital before being flown by Cleveland Clinic Critical Care Transport to Akron General.
Authorities said alcohol is not suspected in the crash. Metzger was not wearing a helmet.
The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Fairfield Township Fire Department, Smith Ambulance, and Greg’s Towing assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
