Authorities have identified the pilot killed in a plane crash last week in Tuscarawas County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 62-year-old Orville J. Evans of New Philadelphia was the sole occupant of the 1973 Cessna 310Q that went down in a farm field in Mill Township on April 1.
The aircraft took off from Harry Clever Field Airport in New Philadelphia at 4:40 p.m. and crashed at approximately 5:08 p.m., according to investigators. DNA testing conducted by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office confirmed Evans’ identity.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Responding agencies included the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, New Philadelphia Fire Department, Warwick Township Fire Department and the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.
