One person killed in Tuscarawas County crash

A person died late Friday night as a result of a single-vehicle crash on State Route 416 just north of New Philadelphia. The accident happened at 10:20 PM.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a person traveling southbound on State Route 416 failed to negotiate a curve, traveled left of center and off the side of the road.

The 2001 GMC Jimmy struck two highway traffic signs and a tree before coming to a rest.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner Investigator.

It is unknown whether drugs and/or alcohol played a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The name of the driver has not been released at this time.

Responding to the crash were: Ohio State Highway Patrol, New Philadelphia Fire Department, Dover Fire Department, Smith Ambulance, Tuscarawas County Coroner Investigator and Afordable Towing.
