The Malvern Hornets handled the Conotton Valley Rockets Friday night, shutting them out by a score of 28-0.

The Rockets chewed up over half of the clock in the first quarter on just their opening drive. The drive was capped by a one-yard touchdown run by Malvern junior Drake Hutchison. The point after attempt was no good.

Hutchison finished the game with 91 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

Up 6-0, the Hornets forced and recovered a Conotton Valley fumble.

Malvern capitalized on the opportunity a few offensive plays later when Malvern QB Jared Witherow connected with WR Dylan Phillips for a 16-yard touchdown. Phillips pulled the ball down between two Conotton Valley defenders.

Malvern took a 13-0 lead into halftime. The Hornets added to the lead to win the contest 28-0 and move to 2-0 on the season.

The Hornets will be back in action Friday, Sept. 1 at home to take on the Harrison Central Huskies (2-0).
