A 66-year-old Canton man has died from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle while jaywalking in the Belden Village area, authorities said.

Alvin J. Newman, 66, of Canton, passed away Tuesday morning at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, according to Jackson Township Police Major Jim Monigold.

The incident occurred Saturday evening, Nov. 30, just before 9 p.m. Newman was attempting to run across Everhard Road NW, west of Whipple Avenue NW, when he was struck by an eastbound 2023 Chevy Trailblazer, Monigold said. The SUV was driven by a 54-year-old man.
