The Canton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred late Wednesday night in Stark County.

According to troopers, the crash happened around 10:10 p.m. on Dec. 4, on Mapleton Street SE, south of U.S. Route 30.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Erich N. Law, 27, of East Rochester, was driving a blue 2014 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Mapleton Street when he failed to navigate a curve. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck two trees before coming to rest. Law was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle, Desirae Shirley, 24, also of East Rochester, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Osnaburg Township EMS for treatment.

Troopers suspect alcohol use was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Osnaburg Township Fire and EMS, the Stark County Sheriff’s Department, the Stark County Coroner’s Office, and Patriot’s Towing assisted at the scene.
