A man and a teenage girl were injured in a shooting late Thursday night in Canton, according to police.

Chief John Gabbard stated that officers responded to a 911 call at 10:20 p.m. on Dec. 5, reporting a shooting at 813 McGregor Ave. NW. When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their legs.

Canton Fire Department medics transported both victims to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital for treatment. A dog at the residence was killed during the incident, police said.

The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Tahi Jaden Miller of Canton, was arrested a short time later near the scene. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of felonious assault, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, improper discharge of a firearm into a habitation, vandalism, and discharging firearms within city limits.

According to 911 call recordings, the suspect and the victims had been involved in an argument prior to the shooting. In one call, a victim reported being on the porch arguing with Miller when he allegedly pulled out a gun and began firing, injuring both individuals and killing their dog.

In another 911 call placed by the suspect himself, before the shooting, Miller reportedly told dispatchers to send help because of a dispute over money.

He was overheard yelling at the victims, saying, “You’re right, I got my gun because you two [expletives] just pulled up talking about whooping my ass.”

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Canton Police Detective Bureau at (330) 489-3144. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Tip411 at www.cantonohio.gov/police or through Stark County Crime Stoppers.
