As temperatures are expected to plummet overnight, the City of Canton has partnered with Canton for All People, Refuge of Hope, and SARTA to open warming centers for those in need. The initiative aims to provide shelter, food, and water to residents during extreme cold weather conditions.

Two warming centers will be available with the following schedules:

  • Crossroads United Methodist Church
    • Location: 120 Cleveland Ave. SW, Canton, OH 44702
    • Hours: Wednesday, Dec. 11, 8:00 p.m. to Thursday, Dec. 12, 8:00 a.m.
    • Amenities: Food and water will be provided. Guests are to enter through the Cleveland Ave. entrance.
  • Refuge of Hope
    • Location: 715 Second St. NE, Canton, OH 44704
    • Hours: Thursday, Dec. 12, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    • Amenities: Food and water will be provided. Guests are to enter through door #4.

Transportation to the warming centers will be facilitated by SARTA, which will provide free rides for those in need. Individuals can board SARTA buses from any regular stop to the Cornerstone Transit Center on Cherry Ave. SE and inform the driver that they are traveling to a warming center.

For those headed to Crossroads United Methodist Church, routes #102 and #105 are recommended.

If transportation is needed outside of SARTA’s operating hours, residents can contact the City of Canton dispatch at 330-649-5800 for assistance.

The city encourages anyone needing shelter to take advantage of these services and stay safe during the extreme cold.
